AIMS OF GIC YOUTH CENTRE

Engage young people through a range of programs and activates. Provide activities and services in a safe, secure and non-judgmental environment Encourage young people to embody the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to appreciate, advocate and pursuer their rights and responsibilities as individuals and as members of the community. To challenge themselves and thrive with equal opportunities in the vastness of our programme.

Background

The GIC Youth Centre is a unique centre in the borough. We have been able to engage youth who have traditional been hard to reach by other youth services. The GIC Youth Centre was opened on 2nd November 2007.

 

We cater for young people form ages 11-19 regardless of faith or ethnicity. The GIC Youth Centre is committed to developing the educational, recreational, social and emotional well-Bing of young people in the boroughs of Greenwich and Bentley and surrounding communities. We are able to provide quality programs, activities and projects for all. We accomplish this in a safe and enjoyable environment led by positive role modally and dedicate youth workers who provide programs and activities based on the needs of the young people and the community.

The GIC Youth Centre have managed to initiate a number of programs to engage the youth within the local and wider community. We have succeeded in establishing a working relation with other organizations such as the Metropolitan Police. Probation Services, Greenwich Borough Council, Faith groups, Fire Brigade, NHS, Charlton Athletes, CARE, Home Office, schools and much more

Facilities & Activities

Professional American Pool Table Sports Sessions: There are so many young people that were previously caught up in the gang/gun/knife crime culture and through football they have now turned their lives around. Many are now working towards rebuilding their lives, their communities encouraging and supporting their peers. For example, increasing respect and reduce tension amongst communities, reducing anti-social and criminal behavior, reducing offending / re-offending of participants, reducing the members of young people that centre into youth justice system and many more outcomes.

Support Services

A range of services will be offered to meet the needs of the individuals. These services will cover a wide range of advices, guidance and support to include the widest range of clients possible including, for example, young teenagers who may benefit from a homework club. Services may include a home visit service, various support groups, Leisure activates and importantly for some ‘a place to go’ .

Mentoring

The mentoring scheme will help the beneficiaries understand how they can overcome their problems and envelop a sustainable lifestyle; they will also act as positive role models and sow that there is a positive alternative to a life of crime. We will also use Imams and counsellors in this process.
